Smoke from wildfires settles into the Vallecito Valley in early September. Much of Southwest Colorado experinced heavy smoke due to western wildfires burning accross much of California, Oregon and parts of Utah. Extreme drought has become common place accross the West in recent years, and wildfires continue to plague nearly every state, with fire seasons now stretching into the late fall. This year was no exception as California battled historic wildfires for a second conscutive year, and Colorado saw three of its largest wildfires ever recorded — all in 2020.
