The City of Durango recently opened Lake Nighthorse to recreation, proving itself a summer haven to both locals and tourists alike. Located just outside of historic downtown Durango, the reservoir was created as a result of the Animas-La Plata Water Project, created to fulfill tribal water rights. The lake is open to motorized boats, fishing, paddle boards and swimmers.
