While the West is known for its resilient, sometimes hardened environments — climate change is taking its toll on the people, animals and natural resources that define this beautiful and fragile ecosystem. Drought continues to plague the western landscape, leaving forests increasingly dry and brittle with each fire season. Water, that feeds all living things, is becoming increasingly scarce with each new year. This once vast, open landscape is more populated with every passing year. New developments herald economic growth, but strain precious resources.
